DermTech Connect
From prototype to usable mobile experience
DermTech is a Bio-medical genomics lab. They created a sticker to lift skin cells, process it and return results that help to identify/detect precursors to melanoma. They wanted to make the process more available to consumers.
Initially a prototype was built utilizing a white label approach. I was brought on to assess and build a roadmap identifying user behavior.

The initial mobile app was not consumer friendly, or designed in a way to appeal to users. Drop off was significant within the first few screens, and many roadblocks were discovered that were not apparent during prototype build.
I started with working through potential user flows and various degrees of addressing roadblocks and drop-offs.

Assessing the brand, user demographics and behaviors I updated the designs to set expectations, increase appeal and address the high drop-off rate post installation.
I leveraged the philosophy of users as a potential marriage partner. You don’t ask a person you just met to marry them. You need to date them, show them your value and then work them into a longer standing relationship. I updated the imagery to set an emotional stage as well as be forthright as to why they are there. I also worked on distributing the reg/personal info throughout the onboarding and first use.

I then reworked the checkout process, providing more information where a user/patient would need to feel confident in their decision and purchase. After purchase the user presented with the Home Screen.
The new Home Screen provides rich content a user may need to maintain their skin health. From articles addressing timely and relevant information to a UV index. Also included is a mole tracking scheduler designed to keep them engaged and return. One of the biggest new features is a contact module, with options to chat or call DermTech addressing any concerns the user may with the process or testing that may happen.
